WHAT IS AQUAPONICS?

Aquaponics is a combination of aquaculture and hydroponics, creating a sustainable form of agriculture that is the future of farming in the Hudson Valley and throughout the world.

OUR SYSTEM

Our system is a Nelson and Pade F-5 aquaponics system that allows us to grow crops and fish within the same recirculating water.

The AquaPals were fortunate enough to have access to an aquaponics system kit that was purchased through Nelson and Pade several years ago. Arlington High School acquired a grant to purchase an aquaponics system and a high school research team set out to assemble it. Except, they couldn't figure it out. To assemble this system, you must be well versed in plumbing, engineering, aquariums, and farming. It's not an easy task for teenagers to accomplish. Flash forward to 2017: the AquaPals come into the scene. We set out on a six month long journey to successfully assemble this system. Now, in 2019, we love our aquaponics system and it has led us to great success and research! We have used our system to teach classes that educate our community from ages 5 to 75. We have used our system to win the Lexus EcoChallenge. We have used our system to become environmental activists for our community. Aquaponics is the future of farming and we are honored to be on the forefront of innovation and ingenuity.
