Hi! Welcome to the AquaPals. We are a group of 6 rising seniors at Arlington High School who are currently performing a scientific research project on the benefits of aquaponics as a safe food source in the Hudson Valley and on a global scale. Aquaponics is the perfect combination aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (growing plants without soil), so that both the fish and plants work together to balance the nutrient levels of the water and create a faster growth rate of food than traditional farming would. We currently have 34 Brown Trout growing in our system and plan to grow Bibb lettuce and potentially beans. Through growing these in an aquaponics system, we not only can grow these up to twice as fast as traditional farming, we are also conserving energy, water, and other resources. We have constructed our own system through the purchase of an F-5 from Nelson and Pade and here we will update you frequently on our successes, struggles, to new ideas, and breakthroughs. Stay tuned for our next entry and look to Our Team page to get to know the AquaPals!
