Exciting news from the AquaPals: we've begun to harvest our lettuce and it is DELICIOUS! We began germinating our Bibb lettuce in July and officially planted it in our raft tanks on July 21. We started 30 plants and set up a control plant to compare with and measure our success. We harvested for the first time on August 15! Only 25 days after planting! This shows just how efficient and sustainable aquaponics is when compared to traditional agriculture. Typical lettuce takes roughly 75 days to grow. Here we are, only taking one-third of the time. The AquaPals had a salad party to celebrate our success. Here is a picture of our delicious meal: all ingredients were locally sourced to support our local farmers and businesses. Now, we have harvested numerous times, but our control plant in soil is yet to be harvested. The second picture illustrates the difference in growth rates between traditional agriculture and aquaponics. The AquaPals are excited to start new crops in the future!
