AquaPal Krishna took on a new segment of aquaponics by trying to increase our sustainability to a whole new level with 3D printing! He is printing a modular raft system out of polylactic acid filament (PLA). PLA is "biodegradable and bioactive thermoplastic" derived from plant sources, according to Wikipedia, the most reliable source. This progress is the epitome of ingenuity and innovation, as this is on the forefront of the future of aquaponics. We are working on an experiment to make sure that water chemistry is unaffected by these 3D printed puzzle pieces, then we will implement these into a turtle rehabilitation center to decrease nitrate levels in their system. Aquaponics on a new level, helping turtles be happy and healthy in their environment. We will also start to implement these rafts into our DIY systems, as they are more eco friendly than polystyrene is :)
